Multiple Newsservers

08/04/2008 - 07:13 von Michael Tessman | Report spam
I am running dialog beta 38 on a win xp system. I have defined a second
news server but I have not been able to figure out how to make it the
active news server. The original server defined when I first installed
dialog is the one that is always used. Moving the newly defined server in
the list had no effect.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

There is no notion of "active newsserver" in Dialog. Rather
my.group(server1) and my.group(server2) are two different groups that
are accessible at the same time.

There are two main approaches to switching (without guarantees!):

If you read few groups, it is safest to subscribe to your groups on the
new server and unsubscribe on the old. You can manually move the
existing posts from each group on the old server to the new one, if you
want.

If you read a lot of groups, it is easier to overwrite the data of your
old server with the new server data in the settings. But that's a little
more dangerous.

You could do it somewhat like this:

- First download headers *and all bodies* in all subscribed groups.
- Now change the server settings to the new server.
- Do a catchup on all groups.
