My girlfriend laptop : modem problem

Hi,
I've just installed last Suse on my girfriend laptop
(Acer Aspire 3003) but the modem
does not work. Yes Ive seen a lot of similar posts but still I need some
urgent help, since it has been already difficult to convince her to
migrate to linux

Yast sees the modem as /dev/ttySL0,

this is lspci:
00:02.6 Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Modem Controller (rev a0) (prog-if 00 [Generic])
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Unknown device 0083
Control: I/O- Mem- BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR-
Interrupt: pin C routed to IRQ 177
Region 0: I/O ports at 1000 [disabled] [size%6]
Region 1: I/O ports at 1c00 [disabled] [size8]
Capabilities: [48] Power Management version 2
Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1+ D2+ AuxCurrentUmA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+)
Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME-

but there is no ttySL0 in /dev.

Moreover, i've tried to use wvdialconf:

Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

Port Scan<*1>: S0 S1 S2 S3
ttyS4<Info>: No such device or address
Port Scan<*1>: S4
ttyS5<Info>: No such device or address
Port Scan<*1>: S5
ttyS6<Info>: No such device or address
Port Scan<*1>: S6
ttyS7<Info>: No such device or address
Port Scan<*1>: S7

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wvdial/

If you still have problems, send mail to wvdial-list@lists.nit.ca.

and obviously wvdial does not work.

I've also tried the scanModem utility from linmodems:

From http://limodems.technion.ac.il , get a recent update of scanModem,
if this copy was not there obtained. There are weekly updates.

It sounds like it is a winmodem. That is a sound card that pretends it is a
modem by means of software. Some winmodems have such drivers written, some
do not. www.linmodems.org

Yast sees the modem as /dev/ttySL0,

ls /dev/ttyS*
and see what is reported.
