Torvalds vs. Tanenbaum

Linus Toevalds is a computer hacker. His Opeeating System Linux is
superior to Minix 3 in all cases. In contrast, Andrew Tanenbaum is a
computer scientist; he wrotes good books. Citing Tanenbaum in a master
thesis is a very good idea, but citing Torvalds "Just for fun" will
bribg down your exam level near idiot work.
The Linux Kernel is useless, because there exists many good
operating systems elsewherw (Windows XP for example, or FreeBSD). But
the Minix Kernel is very important, because its an additional suppleme
to the book "Modern Operating Systems".
If you dislike the Tanenbaum approach, you can chose other
accademic introductions like the xinu approach, or porting bsd to 386.
The aim isn't to program a very good kernel like linux, the aim is to
understand / research something about computer science.
So the best idea is to run academc operating systems inside a
windows machine like bochs. So you get maximum distance to the
subject. And thats it, what scientists want.
