Unnötige Prozesse deaktivieren

Hallo,

mir scheint auf meinem Standard Ubuntu 8.10 làuft bissel zu viel Zeug. Wo
kann ich einstellen, was automatisch gestartet wird und was davon ist
überflüssig? Ich nutze lediglich VMWare als Anwendung und ab und zu UMTS
und Firefox.
