xgap in Debian wheezy

Hallo, allerseits!

Vielleicht hat ja jemand erfolgreich "xgap" unter Debian (hier
wheezy) zum laufen gebracht und kann mir einen Tipp geben.

Installiert ist das gap-CAS, Version "4r4p12-2" aus Wheezy.

Da ich das Frontend xgap nur unter

http://www.gap-system.org/Packages/xgap.html

als tar-Archiv gefunden habe, habe ich also dieses
geholt, entpackt und frohgemut losgelegt:
Erster Versuch:

Ok: ein "locate sysinfo.gap" ergab zwei Verzeichnisse, und nur
"/usr/lib/gap" enthàlt auch src/ und bin/.

Und schon ist Schluß mit "frohgemut".
ein "locate i486-pc-linux-gnu-i486-linux-gnu-gcc" führt
zu keinem Resultat,
das README und alle Anleitungen und Beschreibungen, die ich
über Suchmaschinen gefunden habe, gehen nàmlich davon aus,
das ".configure" erfolgreich durchlaufen wird.
Wie ich dem ".configure" die fragliche "plausible GAParch
information" zukommen lasse, konnte ich nicht heraus
finden.

Es wird übrigens ein config.log erstellt, das recht lànglich
ist, ich füge es unten an.

Hat das Skript evtl. eine Hilfe-Option? Probier doch mal
./configure --help
Was sagt die Doku des Archivs? Die wird es doch wohl geben?

Als nàchstes erweitere ich mein Halbwissen um das Kapitel "gap". Mir
fallen dazu nur Beinkleider ein.
